Jim (Reginald Sharland), a British nobleman, is the only real survivor of his unit after a disastrous engagement in World Warfare I. Helplessly watching as his fellow troopers are burned alive by German flamethrowers, Jim is traumatized and develops an all-consuming worry of fireside. Tortured and ashamed, Jim finally ends up enjoying “Whiskey Johnny” to the denizens of the seedy Bamboo Bar on Suva within the Fiji Islands. The bar, and far of Suva, is managed by the wealthy and sadistic McEwen (Mitchell Lewis), whose ideology of White Supremacy is fueled by self-loathing and disgrace. Storm-tossed into this darkish stew is a shock ray of daylight, Brooklyn showgirl Josie (Sally O’Neil), who’s guided to the bar in the hunt for employment by native native Kalita (sports activities titan Duke Kahanamoku). Josie glimpses the soul contained in the soused Jim and takes him below her wing, sparking a jealous rage in McEwen. For the sake of Josie, Jim should study to stroll on fireplace.
