Take me there Tuesday: Kapuaiwa Coconut Grove on Molokai

Off Maunaloa Freeway (460), simply west of Kaunakakai city, you’ll see a grove of tall coconut bushes on the makai side of the street. This website, Kapuaiwa Coconut Grove, was named after King Kamehameha V who was given the title Lot Kapuaiwa.

Kapuaiwa grove was planted within the 1860s with 1,000 coconut bushes, one for every warrior in King Kamehameha V’s military based on this article by Katrina Valcourt.

Sunsets from Kapuaiwa Coconut Grove are infamous. Throughout a go to to Molokai, we made some extent to see sundown from Kapuaiwa. As you may see from our picture above, we have been rewarded with such a phenomenal scene.

Guests are suggested to solely view the grove from the grassy space off Maunaloa Freeway. Although it might be tempting to get a more in-depth look, strolling underneath these coconut bushes could be very harmful on account of falling coconuts. Moreover, we perceive that the grove is on personal property. So, please be secure and don’t trespass.
